| Hats off once again to all the teams that entered this years TEAM CHALLENGE!! If you missed this one... you really missed out seeing some of the top Oahu skateboarders "put'n it" all together and giving it their "all". Now just because you see some "0" marks, doesn't mean no attempt was made...it just means they were "boost'n" so hard and just didn't make it within 2 tries. After all, you know the saying... "if you don't ride away it doesn't count"..hehe This is where strategy comes to play in a team challenge... sometimes it's better for everyone to land a 1-2 ft air vs. a couple guys trying to make a 4-5 ft air.... because it all ads up toward a team total. My fav once again was watching how the teams came together to perform a doubles routine... a particular favorite was Alf frontsides under Tsanas' huge air off the extensions pool coping.... whew! Intense!! One question was asked in the aftermath of this TC chaos.... each event was about pts & placing... not the actual total score; that just determined the placing. ie: Team 5ive-O getting "0" in the highest air... it put them in 4th (last) place and a score of 85 (the lowest possible score for that event). All riders in each team got to compete in each event, we then dropped the lowest score/s and kept the highest 3 to combine a total for the team... in the end NK pulled it out, close behind was Team 5-O... a tie in pts for 3rd between BH & T&C, so we went to the Team Jam to determine third... T&C edged out BH by 2.5%.... wow, a close one all the way around!! Thanks again to all the local teams/shops.. and the sponsors; Stussy, Volcom, Sector 9, Thrasher Mag, BayVI, & HYP. |

Old School 360 Spin Contest |
| Chris Kays and Nick Yamasato (tie) 34.5 ft trophy belt & $50 |
Vintage trophy board & $40 4.0 revolutions Kirk Murakami |
This years longest carve turned out to be an epic event... both Chris and Nick busted out their best and just couldn't out due each other... both riders gave up after a much longer than expected event in an agreement to a tie. Both are NK Am riders, Chris represents T&C... Nick represents Blue Hawaii... needless to say, their sponsors should be proud of both exceeding the previous record by 12+ ft... 34.5 ft was Chris and Nicks record carve... if you've seen or been to the Hickam Keyhole Bowl... that's from the center of the bowl around to the hips... staying no less than 18 inches below the coping.... arrgh... that's gnar- nar-narly...hehe A salute to Kirk taking the 360 event... hopefully next year more time and participants.... aloha for now. |
